German enterprise carbon management specialist Carbmee has secured $20 million in Series A funding, led by CommerzVentures. Additional capital came from Fly Ventures as well as a few angel investors. This comes in the wake of three years straight where the company has tripled annual revenue. Newly raised funds will be used to speed up carbmee’s international expansion and further enhance its EIS™ platform, especially in features like carbmee Studio, a tool for generating customizable, AI-powered reports and dashboards, and capabilities for managing Scope 3 emissions.
Christian Heinrich, CEO, and Co-founder of carbmee, stated that such funding not only gives the validation of the progress made so far but also marks a beginning to its next stages of growth. He says that the anticipation of ever-growing importance of Scope 3 emissions, especially for manufacturing, was a prime concern at the time. He explained that through the new investment, carbmee would expand value from its platform into the finance department for an all-in-one carbon accounting integration and into the R&D departments for designing eco-friendly products.
Founded in 2021, Christian Heinrich and Robin Spickers started carbmee to address one major problem of large enterprises: quantifying and managing carbon emission within their complex supply chain. The biggest challenge of Scope 3 emissions, which constitute more than 80% of an organization’s total emissions, is the lack of traceability. Spreadsheets are mostly inefficient for this purpose, resulting in fragmented data. The platform offered by Carbmee substitutes those old tools with a completely integrated solution that leverages lifecycle assessment data, AI-driven insights, and customizable dashboards.
The company has already made a lot of noise with high-profile clients, such as Maersk, Miele, Coca-Cola, Lufthansa Technik, Schaeffler, and Anglo American. Carbmee claims its platform has delivered significant results, including faster and more accurate carbon footprint calculations. For instance, KWS Saat reported a 94% reduction in the time it took to calculate supplier carbon footprints. Moreover, the platform has also allowed enterprises to be better compliant in terms of regulatory frameworks like CSRD and CBAM.
Robin Spickers Co-founder of carbmee underlined that the carbon emissions management is provided centrally with its various levels—corporate, product, supplier, and SKU. This enables companies to treat CO2 data as accurately and as important as their financial data within an ERP system. Procurement teams can collect primary data and select the most sustainable suppliers; finance teams can generate reports in accordance with regulations like CSRD and CBAM; R&D engineers can create greener products; and sustainability teams can identify opportunities for CO2 reductions, particularly in Scope 3.
It’s a bet on the mission and future of the company. According to Paul Morgenthaler, a Managing Partner at CommerzVentures, it is also an appreciation of the fact that the founders have experienced such remarkable growth and expressed his belief in carbmee’s capacity to handle a critical shift in industrial practice. It happens that businesses are under pressure globally to address their carbon footprint, making carbmee’s software capable of easing the decarbonization of supply chains for industries. Morgenthaler expressed enthusiasm about the company’s future and the opportunity to support its continued success.
With offices in Berlin, Munich, and New York, and a fast-growing team of over 60 employees, carbmee has a great position to grow. The new funding is set to play a great role in the expansion of its global presence and the further development of new features for its platform. As demand for sustainability increases, carbmee’s integrated solution offers streamlined ways for companies to monitor carbon emissions and meet regulatory compliance.
The most important value of Carbmee’s innovative approach is the fact that more and more organizations realize the importance of tackling Scope 3 emissions, which remains one of the most difficult and significant challenges in corporate sustainability. With its AI-powered platform, the company enables businesses to gain deeper insights into their supply chains, make informed decisions about sustainability, and reduce their environmental impact. As more businesses embrace carbmee’s solution, the company is well set to take a leading position in guiding industries toward much more sustainable practices.
