The seed round raised €3.9 million and was led by EQT Ventures, which has made several investments in companies like Biolevate and Candela. It also saw participation from YouTuber Kwebblekop with over 15 million subscribers using Argil to boost his YouTube channel. The other investors who contributed to the funding include Charles Gorintin, co-founder and CTO of Alan. The startup had earlier secured €1 million in a pre-seed round from Seedcamp and Axeleo.

Founded in 2023 by Brivael Le Pogam and Laodis Menard, Argil is an AI-powered platform for empowering creators to easily produce engaging, high-quality video content. Its main feature allows users to clone themselves from uploaded videos, generating hyper-realistic AI avatars, which can also generate content in multiple languages, making it easier for creators to engage a global audience.

The platform offers a wide range of user-friendly tools, from pre-editing features to customizable templates and access to a diverse library of virtual avatars. These tools make it easy to transform text-based and audio content into compelling video content, making workflows easier and allowing creators to meet the high production standards expected in today’s video-driven world.

Argil stands out from competitors through avatars that are realistic but human in expression and body language, ensuring higher viewer engagement. Argil avatars are more natural than those found on other platforms; they are created to give viewers a real, genuine feel to the content. Argil has already earned trust from known content creators who have millions of followers and even iconic estates like that of Audrey Hepburn, which make use of the technology provided by Argil to produce their video content

Apart from the free service, Argil also has a subscription model which targets content creators and businesses. The subscription offers access to Argil’s comprehensive platform which brings together AI-driven video and audio production tools. Such subscriptions unlock key services like personalising hyper-realistic avatars, producing content in multiple languages, and video auto-editing with subtitles and transitions. With a starting rate of $1 per minute of video, Argil empowers the creator to create high-quality video content in less time compared with traditional production processes.

The firm plans to democratize the video-creating process by cutting time and money typically used in video creation. Laodis Menard, co-founder and CEO, said, “I was passionate about creating video content, but increasingly, I found it expensive and time-consuming,” having previously worked on product marketing at a French unicorn. Not everyone is comfortable in front of the camera, and at Argil, we want to help anyone bring their vision to life quickly and affordably using AI technology. We believe video content demand will keep rising, and AI is the key to meeting that demand efficiently. Our goal is to make creating a video as easy as writing a tweet.”

Argil is well-positioned to ride two significant trends: the emergence of AI technology and the creator economy. These two trends have positioned synthetic media as the fastest form of technology adopted over the past year. Ted Persson, a partner at EQT Ventures, said Argil’s strategic position was attractive for these trends: “Argil’s platform is a sleek, efficient solution that has already impressed us with its technology.”. Argil’s team’s expertise in this area and their ability to package so much power into a user-friendly platform make it an exciting addition to our portfolio.

As Argil continues to evolve, its mission is clear: to empower creators and businesses with AI-driven tools that make producing engaging, professional-quality video content accessible to everyone. With the support of its investors and its innovative platform, Argil is set to make a significant impact on the way videos are created and consumed in the digital age.
